Quarter course
The family and consumer science course uses a multi-dimensional approach to learning practical skills needed for personal and career choices. Students will identify basic principles of nutrition and apply them in laboratory settings. Emphasis is placed on proper portion sizes, making healthy food choices, and the relationships between health and good nutrition. Eighth grade clothing and textiles is designed to give students a taste of the importance of colors when selecting clothing, history of fashion, how to read pattern symbols, and basic construction techniques. Students learn how to choose appropriate fabrics, and demonstrate the steps used in constructing a final project.
