IC > Eighth and Ninth Grade Students Tackle All the Preparations for Thanksgiving Meal
Remember when life was much easier and seemed so simple? Enjoying your Thanksgiving meal didn’t involve concerns about comparative shopping for the freshest ingredients or lowest prices. You didn’t need to make the executive decisions on how many people to invite, seating arrangements, menu selections, and decorations. The table was already set and when you finished eating, you relaxed and watched the football game. Then you grew up and realized that your parents make these decisions all the time!
This same learning experience was the focus of a consumerism unit being studied by students in the Modified Learning Support class at Indian Crest Jr. High. The students in Margot Winfree’s class have taken the last few weeks to tackle all the necessary details to prepare a full-blown turkey dinner. The tables were set with linen and candlesticks. Centerpieces were made by the students using natural items they’d gathered outside earlier in the day. Students practiced the art of small talk and eat their meal with guests of other students.
Real life learning continued when the guests left and students cleaned up!
Happy Thanksgiving!
