IC > Dress-Up Dance Guidelines

Indian Crest hosts several dress-up dances annually. The intent of dress-up dances is to provide students with a fun and special opportunity to share time with their classmates. However, it is important that eighth and ninth grade students preserve the opportunity to enjoy being eighth and ninth grade students, and not be "rushed" to high school.

It is the expectation of Indian Crest Junior High School that parents not extend themselves to spend excessive amounts of time and/or money on preparations (i.e., clothes) for the dances. While we ask that students "dress-up," the Indian Crest dress-up dances are not "formal" or "semi-formal" affairs.

To ensure that the dances are fun and special, yet not exclusive for any students, those who attend Indian Crest Junior High School dress-up dances are required to abide by the following guidelines:

  • Boys are encouraged to wear khakis, a shirt, and a tie. Students are not permitted to wear tuxedos.

  • Girls are encouraged to wear dresses or skirts. Formal gowns are considered excessive. However, girls may not wear strapless dresses or skirts/dresses which are cut less than three inches above the knee (slits in skirts or dresses may also not be cut less than three inches above the knee). Cleavage, mid-sections, or bare backs may not be showing.

  • All students' undergarments must be covered and not visible.

  • Students are not permitted to travel to the dance using special transportation (i.e., limousines, trolleys, carriages, etc.).

  • One guest is permitted per student (ninth grade dance only).

  • The appropriate guest pass permission form must be completed and submitted to the ninth grade assistant principal by no later than one day prior to the dance and prior to purchasing a ticket for the guest. Guests must attend school (grades 8 - 12). Guests must also have their parents sign and return a permission form along with the completed guest pass permission form.
