IC > April through June Principal's Message

April at Indian Crest

As the words “play ball” echo across the country filling the spring air the “boys of summer” take to the field and we begin the final phase of the 07-08 year. The “home stretch” is always filled with numerous activities. Student performances, class trips, transitions, and student recognition events are annual occurrences during this time period. Here is what is happening at IC from April through June.

  • Mr. Haggerty has his team prepared and ready for the Indian Crest Jazz Band Festival on Friday, April 4 at 7:00p.m. in the IC auditorium. The IC Jazz band has honed its performance and this is always a fun evening for those who attend. It is your chance to see the performer’s before they make it “big!” We are very proud of our performing arts students and anticipate an excellent show.

  • Wednesday, April 9 also marks the official end of the third marking period. Report cards will be mailed on Wednesday, April 16.

  • The IC all school musical, Mulan, will premier this month. The first show is at 2:00p.m. for senior citizens of the Souderton Area School District on April 24. The second show is on Friday, April 25 at 7:00p.m. A third show is slated for Saturday, April 26, at 7:00p.m. All shows are in the IC auditorium.   • Wednesday, April 23 through Wednesday, May 14 --- Indian Crest counselors will be scheduling our current 8th grade students for their freshman year (08-09). Please contact your child’s guidance counselor if you have any questions regarding the scheduling process or classes.

  • All 8th grade students will take the PSSA Science assessment during the week of April 28, 2008. More information will be posted and sent home with the students as we get closer to the assessment date.

  • Heading into the fourth marking period it is important to start thinking about final exams in June. A reminder to all students and parents that……The final exam or final assessment constitutes 20% of the course grade and will weigh the same as a fifth quarter for all courses in 9th grade and the 8th grade accelerated courses. This is consistent with grading procedures and using common final assessments.

 

Looking Forward to May

  • Mr. Haggerty and Mrs. Shumas are running the annual IC Band and Orchestra trek to Dorney Park on Friday, May 9, 2008, to participate in a music adjudication festival. The group will be adjudicated by a panel of judges on their performance. For more information, please contact mhaggerty@soudertonsd.org.

  • Ms. Blodgett and Mr. Henning, the 9th grade class advisors, are on the process of organizing the Ninth Grade Dress-Up Dance on Friday, May 2. The same rules / criteria apply for the dance on May 2 as they did for our Winter Holiday Dance. For more information regarding the dance and when tickets will go on sale, please contact cgeschwindt@soudertonsd.org or dphenning@soudertonsd.org.

  • Ms. Blodgett and Mr. Henning are also facilitating the ninth grade class trip to Hershey Park. The class trip is scheduled for May 15, 2008. Information pertaining to the trip has been sent home with students. The completed student field trip permission form, student payment form, and money ($50) must be returned your child’s homeroom teacher or before Wednesday, April 2, 2008. Any student that does not return the requested forms and money by Wednesday, April 2, 2008, will not be allowed to go on the class trip. Please make checks payable to Indian Crest Junior High School.   • Mrs. Hill is the class advisor for the eighth grade and is facilitating the eighth grade class trip to Knoebels Amusement Park on Friday, May 30. Information pertaining to the trip has been sent home with students.   • On Monday, May 12 the Student Government Campaign for the 08-09 school year commences. Candidates will begin to post campaign signs and materials throughout Indian Crest. The candidates will present their speeches to the student body on Friday, May 23. The students will vote on Tuesday, May 27.

  • The Indian Crest Band, Chorus, and Orchestra Concerts are scheduled for...

    • Tuesday, May 13…..Choral Concert
    • Wednesday, May 14…..Orchestra Concert
    • Monday, May 19…..Band Concert
      All concerts will be in the IC auditorium. Showtime is 7:00p.m. The students are eager to perform and show off their talents! Dynamite shows are expected!

  • Tuesday, May 20, the 9th grade students that made the honor roll consecutively for the first three marking periods will be recognized with a banquet. The banquet begins at 6:30p.m. in the IC Cafeteria.

  • Thursday, May 29, Indian Crest will recognize the 8th grade students that made the honor roll consecutively for the first three marking periods with an Ice Cream Social. The social begins at 6:30p.m. in the IC Cafeteria.

Closing the 07-08 year in June

  • Final Exams are scheduled for Monday, June 9 (Science and English), Tuesday, June 10 (World Language and Math) and Wednesday, June 11 (Social Studies).

    Students are dismissed at 9:30a.m. (bus students) and 9:39a.m. (walkers).

  • Monday, June 16 is the honor roll trip to Dorney Park and the last day of school for students.
    Students are dismissed at 9:30a.m. (bus students) and 9:39a.m. (walkers).
