Accelerated Math for 7th Grade

The 7th Grade Accelerated Math course is a compact and advanced program that provides the rigor necessary to prepare students to take the Algebra 1 course in 8th grade. It is a very fast paced course that covers the PA Core Standards of grades 7 and 8 in a one-year course of study.  An overview of the content for the course can be found on page 4 of the 7th grade curriculum overview

Multiple criteria are used to determine which students will most likely be successful in this rigorous course of study. Criteria include the Spring MAP Math data, the end of year course grade in Math 6, and the Orleans-Hanna Algebra Prognosis Test score.

On Thursday, May 8, grade 6 math teachers will administer the Orleans-Hanna Algebra Prognosis Test to all students currently in their Math 6 courses. The test introduces new information and requires students to use their reasoning skills to discover answers to the problems that follow. The problem-solving items help accurately assess students’ ability to handle new situations. Students meeting the criteria will be notified in June and enrolled in the 7th Grade Accelerated Math course. Students who do not meet the criteria will be enrolled in Math 7.

Parents who do not want their child to take the Orleans-Hanna Algebra Prognosis Test and notbe considered for the 7th Grade Accelerated Math course must email theirchild’s math teacher byMonday, May 5th, 2025.

Please contact your child’s math teacher or school counselor with any questions.
